Urban ReLeaf is looking for artists, designers, muralists, or community facilitators to submit proposals for an exciting new opportunity in Riga. We’re offering a €2,500 commission to develop a mural concept and lead a participatory process that brings local climate stories to life through creativity and community engagement.

Why this matters
Climate change affects everyone, but its impacts are often invisible. In Riga, residents have been collecting environmental data on urban heat islands and air quality (PM2.5 particles), revealing how heat, air pollution, and urban design affect daily life.
A mural can translate this data into a visually engaging story, spark dialogue, and inspire action toward greener, healthier cities. By co-creating the artwork, local residents become authors of the project, strengthening community identity and connection to place.

What we’re looking for
We are seeking curators, producers, visual artists, or collectives with experience in community engagement and co-creation. The mural should reflect one or more of the following themes:
- Urban climate data from the Urban ReLeaf project, such as heat islands or air pollution levels
- Individual contributions to climate change mitigation through sustainable daily habits
- The importance of greener, more resilient cities in today’s urban society
The mural will be installed on nine support planes and/or the opposite wall along a central pedestrian corridor between Riga Central Station and Riga Central Market, creating a vibrant and inspiring environment for passers-by.

- Interviews with shortlisted candidates: March 2026
- Implementation: March–June 2026, with opening in June
