Call for Creative Proposals: Transform Urban Climate Stories into Comics in Athens

3 min read • 1st June 2026

Urban ReLeaf invites comic artists, illustrators, writers, and digital creators to submit proposals for an exciting new opportunity in Athens, Greece.

We’re offering a €2,500 commission to co-create an original comic or visual storytelling project that brings urban climate data and community experiences to life.

Why this matters

Climate change affects everyone, but not equally. In Athens, some neighborhoods experience higher temperatures, reduced access to green space, and poorer air quality than others.

Through the Urban ReLeaf project, residents of the city have been collecting environmental data on urban heat, thermal comfort, trees, and air quality, revealing how the climate crisis is experienced differently across the city. These insights offer powerful stories about everyday life in urban environments.

We now want to transform this data into engaging comic-based storytelling that communicates environmental challenges, highlights local initiatives, and inspires action, especially among young people and students.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking an individual artist, collective, illustrator, comic designer, writer, or digital storyteller with a strong creative approach to visual narrative.

You do not need prior experience working with environmental or scientific data, what matters most is your ability to translate complex ideas into engaging, accessible storytelling.

We are open to formats including:

  • Printed or digital comics
  • Graphic narratives and illustrated stories
  • Sequential visual storytelling
  • Experimental or hybrid comic formats
