Riga gets hot in the summer, especially in the city centre, where there are fewer trees and buildings trap heat. Can you help change that?
Urban ReLeaf is looking for passionate residents to join a citizen science project that tracks where Riga feels hottest, and helps plan a greener, cooler future for all.

What’s It All About?
- We’re measuring urban heat islands, these are places in the city that get uncomfortably hot.
- You’ll use portable sensors and a mobile app to collect data whilst walking.
- Your input will support smarter city planning and help fight climate change, right here in Riga.
Why Join?
- Contribute to real solutions for a more liveable, sustainable city.
- Learn about climate and urban design through free talks, walks, and community events.
- Connect with neighbours, NGOs, and others shaping the future of our city.

Who Can Join?
We’re especially looking for:
- Residents of central Riga
- Neighbourhood associations and NGOs
- Anyone who works or spends time outdoors in the city centre
When?
Data collection takes place from June – August 2025
